My full name is Enjoli Julia Gomez. My first name is pronounced On-Jo-Lee. It is originally spelled Anjali and is Hindi for offering one’s hands up to God. I am not Indian but my mother’s good friend is. My mother will never admit it but I believe she changed the spelling of the name to match the perfume.
I go by either Enjoli or Julia, whichever is easier for you. I was born in Modesto, CA. I spent the first four years of my life in Manteca, CA. I then spent my fifth birthday in Maine where I received my first love, Buster. As I opened the lid to the cardboard box I thought contained a coo coo clock, I realized I was very wrong. It was a baby Maine Coon kitten that I of course named Buster.
I spent kindergarten through my first year of junior college in Monterey, CA. I was a dancer for the first half of my life and it was here that I started my first real job as an Animal Caretaker/Kennel Attendant for an all cat veterinary hospital called Purrfurably Cats. I spent my days in school, singing, dancing and playing the drums and my nights playing with cats, feeding them, cleaning them, and medicating them.
My parents moved back to the Modesto area when I was 18 and I moved with them. I attended my second year of junior college in Modesto where I graduated with my Associates Degree in General University Studies with the Intent of Transferring to a four year establishment. I took my first sculpting class here and fell in love instantly. I still sculpt with stone and with clay. I got my first dog, Zircon. She has since passed but is still in my heart.
After getting my associates, I landed a career type job working as a relay operator for the deaf and hard of hearing community for almost four years. I became a lead operator very quickly and moved up to Assistant Manager and Trainer in no time. Although I was happy with my upwards movement, I realized that I was unfulfilled and wanted to continue my education.
In 2007 I moved to San Diego, CA. I knew no one. It was pretty scary. I attended the University of California, San Diego to study Psychology. I was driven by my need to understand the differences in visual perception between people and that is exactly what I studied. Along the way I became enthralled with the idea of the brain and everything it had to offer. I studied things like infant visual systems and twin studies with Karen Dobkins, bayesian statistics theories with Stephanie Fantino, and global vs. local percepts with Stuart Anstis. I was accepted into many graduate level courses where I had the freedom to explore more conceptual ideas like deja vu, where consciousness stems from, and bridging mathematical theories with psychology. During this time I volunteered at local farms and drove the campus shuttle with a class b passenger endorsement where I was also promoted to trainer. I just simply could not picture myself in the dark dank basement in front of a computer in the psychology building forever or as a bus driver.
While in my last year attending UCSD, I decided to start my own consulting company which I still dabble in today. I am teaching people how to use WordPress, helping new businesses develop their brand, creating graphics, mentoring start-ups in marketing, advertising, SEO, social media, and much more. Can you tell that I love teaching? 🙂 I still make websites as well. In 2011, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with an emphasis in mammalian visual systems.
I realized that I was still spending most of my time in front of a computer and not living in the real world. I knew I loved animals so I decided to follow my heart and become a veterinarian. I started out as a veterinary technician, then became lead tech, then assistant manager, then office manager, and trainer. I wanted to learn the business front and back before I decided to commit to at least four more years of school. I have learned so many interesting things along the way and have had some life changing experiences from assisting in the birth of baby goats to assisting in exploratory surgery and so much more.
Now, I am continuing to learn the back end of the mostly-non-animal-business-side in an animal specialty hospital. I am saving up for school and a house which is why I am doing this now. I have two kitties named Spooky and Kitten. They keep each other company and I can definitely share pictures because I have about a million of them playing and snuggling each other. lol I also have two salt water fish tanks and a fresh water fish tank.
Some other hobbies of mine include cheese making, knitting, drawing, dancing, singing, working out, and pet sitting!
I am very open and loving and will answer any questions you have!
